Oregon Continuing Legal Education Materials Eligible for Credits

The information below summarizes options for obtaining Oregon Continuing Legal Education credits, other than attendance at the seminars themselves. Some sources for CLE materials are: the University of Oregon Law Library's collection, Oregon State Bar online audio and video collection, Oregon State Bar Professional Liability Fund, Oregon Law Institute, Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Lane County Law Library.

The University of Oregon Law Library's current holdings of audiocassettes and audio CDs which are eligible for CLE credits are listed below. The loan period is 1 week. According to the Bar Association, members must listen to the audiotape or CD to earn credits; perusing print materials does not qualify for credit. Due to a recent change in MCLE Rule 5.7(c), effective January 1, 2009, the allowable period for eligibility for CLE credits has been shortened from 5 years to 3 years from the original program date. Some exceptions are topics with more frequent changes such as Child Abuse Reporting or tax CLEs, which may be subject to an even shorter period.

The Oregon State Bar has a variety of online audio and video courses. The charge varies according to format and particular CLE presentation. Once you have paid, you can access the materials for 60 days. See the link for more information:

You can find general information about earning Minimum Continuing Legal Education credits at http://www.osbar.org/mcle/mcle.html. The text of the MCLE Rules and Regulations may be found at http://www.osbar.org/_docs/rulesregs/mclerules.pdf. Reporting forms may be found at the OSB web site at http://www.osbar.org/mcle/forms.html.

The OSB Professional Liability Fund offers a Loss Prevention Lending Library at http://www.osbplf.org/ free to attorneys whose principal offices are in Oregon; other attorneys pay a small fee per program. Under OSB# and Name, sign in as Guest. Under Loss Prevention, click on Online CLE, Programs on Audio, or Programs on Video. Streaming and downloadable seminars are available online, and audio and video programs are available for loan. Topics and dates for free or low-cost seminars are also listed under Upcoming Seminars.

The Oregon Law Institute provides live seminars and video replays. The web site is http://www.lclark.edu/org/oli/. Charges vary by format and topic; the standard fee for online CLEs includes access for 2 months.

The Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association has a list of upcoming seminars as well as a Seminar Archives of credit-eligible programs for purchase. See https://www.ocdla.org/seminars.html.

Finally, the Lane County Law Library, located in the Public Services Building in downtown Eugene (125 East 8th Avenue), has a fairly extensive collection of CLE materials. See http://www.co.lane.or.us/CC_lawlib/ and search the library catalog for program. Audio-visual materials are indicated by a musical note symbol. The loan period is 2 weeks for 2 items, January through October, and 1 week for 1 item, November and December.
